Boat Build and Pregnant
We loved our first summer onboard Seabird, but something was missing… Panelling? Flooring? A proper toilet? Off-grid water system? Wiring? Washing machine? Sauna?... A baby? We had a crazy winter season in 2022.
Before the sea ice fastened its grip around the coastline of Finland, we sailed Seabird to her winter harbour. She would be tightly hugged by the ice until the sunshine of spring would free her again.
So, a bit about boat building. I think with most renovation projects we tend to be a bit overly optimistic with time consumption and the needed budget. Sending our sympathies to all the other optimist out there! Even though the project got tough at times (many times), the feeling of stepping on to our own dreamy boat home now makes it worth it. We will share pictures of the “final” product in another post. Meanwhile here are some fun pictures of what can only be described as a very productive mess.
“One of us was busy building a boat with all of their free time, and the other one was busy growing a new human being.”
We were lucky enough to stay at some beautiful places with our caravan home during winter. We endured some harsh snowstorms which shook our caravan, but winter is incredibly beautiful when it gets cold and snowy.
We were so happy with the news that a new little being was on the way, and we could not wait to meet her! That being said, it was not easy growing a baby. Half a year of a “hangover” and still you had to try an act like a normal citizen was a challenge on the physical and mental. Sometimes you need to be knocked down, to stand up stronger again, and this definitely happened to me during those 9 months. I want to send a hug to anyone who is struggling, for whatever reason, you are not alone, it will pass, and most importantly it is okay not to be okay all the time.
And at the end, I am truly in awe of the female body. I wish I would have learnt earlier to appreciate the female body and all its capabilities. So, hey men, and everyone who identifies as one, you might be stronger and faster than us ladies with your testosterone, but c’mon having the possibility to grow another human being is beyond amazing!
The deepest gratitude runs through our veins as we now have the privilege to hold our own little daughter in our arms.
Next post we’ll take you on a tour inside our boat!
